Herstory...
In her early twenties fresh from graduating with her Fine Arts/Visual Arts degree Linda with encouragement from her dear Aunt Shirley and dear cousin Helen in Sydney, Linda moved to Sydney spurred on by Helen's suggestion that Sydney would broaden her artistic endeavours. She loaded her prized musical possessions including her acoustic guitar, harmonica and her secondhand yet perfect Tascam 244 4-track recorder along with other minimal personal effects into her subaru station wagon and headed off to Sydney whereby Linda lived her artistic dream enthusiastically performing in and around Sydney and collaborated with numerous other musicians and artists wherever and whenever she could for over a decade before returning home to South Australia in 2004.
On Linda's return from working in Sydney for over a decade, along with her suitable and broad entertainment and non entertainment work experience, her dear mother a Director of Nursing offered Linda a position in aged care administration. It's during this time her mother and a friend Meredith in the Lifestyle department further encouraged Linda's passion for music performance by asking her to perform her music show and booked her to provide live music entertainment concerts for senior care residents in low care, high care and dementia care.
Since then, inspired by her mother, with great help from Pauline who now oversees the quality and quantity of the live sound production, and along with encouragement from dear family and friends, seniors' bookings became a great part of Linda's full-time entertainment profession which includes music for all types of social events including concerts and extended happy hours. Entertainment shows have included shows for: local councils such as for Glenelg Shire Council (Mayoral Christmas Garden Party) and the City of West Torrens Municipal Council (St Martin's Australia Day Concert as well as other concerts and happy hours); performance for community groups such as The Glenelg Community Centre, birthday celebrations for private events and other monthly birthday concerts for various religious and community organisations including Eldercare, Lifecare, as well as private care centres.
One of the many high standards passed from her mother onto Linda includes her passion for providing an uplifting environment with regular live entertainment with extended happy hour concerts for seniors within the community.
Based on this experience and depending on each concert requirements show bookings can be any length in duration with any announcements, speeches and intermissions as desired.
Linda through her musical mastery and as a crossover music artist has grown throughout the years to consistently produce shows for enjoyment by including a broad range of popular favourite songs, and some which maybe obscure but are well worth listening to. Each song is appropriately chosen for all specific occasions.
Memory Lane...
Here's a picture of where it all started:
Linda's loving parent's encouraged her passion for art production from an early age.
Following is a picture of Linda's two older brothers and herself.
Born to South Australian country folk, their mother was born in Bute and their father born in Blyth; her brothers and Linda were also born in Blyth.
Blyth, a small yet quaint country town nestled fifteen minutes mostly downhill on a meandering narrow two way winding road below Clare. Blyth is mostly still authentic to how it's always been. One small main street and only a few streets broad each way, yet memories of childhood days still provides inspiration for some of Linda's original songs to the present day; in fact her harmonica playing on her original song compositions echos the broad and open farming plains and dusty dirt roads surrounding their early hometown.
Whilst her brothers went onto establish their own business together, Linda has been exploring her artistic nature and performing live music for over 25 years since 1990 when she was a new arrival to Sydney and went busking for the first time at Darling Harbour, armed with her secondhand $100 guitar, harmonica and numerous original songs and a few favourite cover songs. Since then her musical career has taken her on a rich musical journey creating a tapestry of adventures and memories filled with real larger than life personalities, and when together have shared with each other extraordinary kindness.
Busking amongst the hustle and bustle of Sydney's peak hour in Central Tunnel Train Station - to performing original songs on fledgling community cable TV in Sydney's Redfern, Telstra's first testing ground for cable TV in Australia - to playing original songs live-to-air on community radio stations in Sydney - to the joy of playing for children and while people celebrate their birthdays with their loved ones - to finding all the great characters who became great friends, who live in her music - Linda has enjoyed the musical ride.
Born into a small country community in Blyth, SA, Linda brings not only her close country roots to her music but her experiences of times spent in some of the biggest cities and smallest towns throughout Australia and the world.
As a music artist Linda sings to interpret life's stories through song, whilst helping to create the perfect atmosphere - whether it's a party celebration, a happy hour or a chilled relaxing one - it's sure to be filled with enjoyment, fun, laughter and dancing (whether mentally or physically).
Most importantly, Linda appreciates your input whenever possible and looks forward in continuing to bring you the best from the past while celebrating the present and all the while trying to create a better and more enjoyable future.
Linda graciously thanks all her friends who've booked previous shows and continue to do so as well as all the new clients joining in to celebrate 'good times' through live entertainment.
For Linda, "Like life, music is a journey. Through song I love to share, celebrate and reminisce about the stories of our lives along the way. Each song represents a story of what may have happened to us with empathy, and some even help change the way we view ourselves, others and the world in which we live for the better. Also, live music is a catalyst allowing great celebrations to unwind, allowing us to connect with each other in the most special way. Great songs have always heightened my our own life experience like magic, so I like to share this magic whenever I can - Through The ONE GIRL BAND Show we celebrate life through the beautiful power of song."
Whilst in Sydney, a friend, an established working club and pub musician once said to her... "when poker machines moved into hotels all those years ago in Australia they mostly moved into what had been the live music room and many musicians were displaced." Hopefully more and more community centres will welcome back more live entertainment so more and more of our musicians can start or come back to their local centres, whether hotels, RSLs, community clubs etc., so they can share their talents for the betterment and enjoyment of the community.
"My father was the first to record me on a small portable National cassette tape recorder not long after i could walk. So with respect to him and his enthusiasm, i've just taken his lead and continued to record and expand on his initial impulse."
Linda remained in Sydney for over a decade before becoming homesick for her immediate family. In Sydney Linda performed original and cover music in groups and as a solo artist at various special events in various venues throughout Sydney and surrounds. Linda studied Musicianship at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music part-time for three years whilst working full-time in various career roles within the entertainment sphere including positions in film & TV production and in various all-rounder positions with The New South Wales Writers' Centre including Office and Events Manager.
In 2004 Linda resigned from her public service position in Public Relations at SBS TV & Radio to return home to SA. After returning home SBS recruitment called with an option for a position in Sydney in the New Media department. As SBS has no office in Adelaide to transfer to Linda declined wishing instead to be near her dear parents and immediate family - and since 2006 with the great help and encouragement from Pauline, Linda began providing musical entertainment on a full-time basis.
